The Independent Myanmar Journalists Association (IMJA) hereby announces the formation of an Election Organizing Committee to facilitate the systematic, transparent, and successful conduct of the election for the next term of the IMJA Executive Committee.
The IMJA Executive Committee election is tentatively scheduled to be held on 23 August 2026. The Election Organizing Committee will be responsible for the necessary preparations, informing IMJA members, administrative arrangements, and coordination required in advance of the election.
The Election Organizing Committee is composed of the following members:

Ko Kyaw
Ma Tin Tin Kyu
Ko Zin Maung
Ko Hmue
In addition, IMJA is currently taking steps to establish a separate and independent Election Commission, free from the direct influence of the current IMJA Executive Committee and candidates contesting the election, in order to ensure that the electoral process is administered and supervised independently and fairly.
The independent Election Commission will be responsible for establishing and overseeing the election rules and procedures, reviewing and deciding matters related to candidates, supervising the voting and vote-counting processes, and independently confirming and announcing the election results.
Once the independent Election Commission has been established, the Election Organizing Committee will have no involvement whatsoever in election-related procedures, decisions, candidate-related matters, voting, vote counting, or the confirmation of election results. In all matters relating to the election, the Election Organizing Committee will respect and abide by the authority and decisions of the independent Election Commission.
Once the Election Commission has been formally established, IMJA will issue a further announcement regarding the members of the Commission, the election rules and regulations, and the detailed electoral procedures.
IMJA also encourages all members to actively participate in the election process in order to ensure the emergence of an Executive Committee that reflects the democratic values and transparency of the organization and represents the will of its members.
