Request for the Immediate Release of Two Journalists Detained by the KIA
It has been reported that Tar Lin Maung, a journalist based in Hpakant, was arrested and taken by members of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) on September 29, 2024.
Additionally, freelance journalist Naung Yoe, also based in Hpakant, was detained by KIA members on September 30, 2024.
Following their arrest, the KIA has not informed the families of the two journalists about their whereabouts, and all communication has been cut off until now.
Tar Lin Maung, a journalist for Red News Agency, and Naung Yoe, a freelance journalist, are professionals who have been reporting in accordance with journalistic ethics.
The Independent Myanmar Journalists Association (IMJA) is deeply concerned about the ongoing detention and lack of communication regarding these two journalists.
In recognition of the importance of press freedom, IMJA urges the KIA to release the two detained journalists immediately.
